Review: You Are the Girl For The Job

Friend, have you read this book yet? Let me tell you, if you don’t like the idea of having your very own personal cheerleader chanting your name from the sidelines of your life, this book may not be for you. Let’s get into it!

The Background: I have been following Jess Connolly on instagram for awhile now and I love her brand of positive, encouraging discipleship. She holds no punches about wanting to leave this generation better than she found it and I often think of her as that championing voice, cheering us all on to know and love the Lord deeper and with our whole hearts.

You Are the Girl for the Job: Daring to Believe the God Who Calls You was published on September 24, 2019 by Zondervan.

The Book: This book is all about believing that God has called each and everyone of us to a specific ministry. But Jess doesn’t leave us there. She gives us a new way of thinking about our calling.

She encourages us to quit trying to be the best, to lean in and discover what issue or population breaks our heart, and how to trust the Lord, even when it seems scary or illogical.

She breaks this all down into realistic steps that helps us think radically differently about where and why God has placed us.

If you could see my copy of the book you’d be able to tell that it has been well loved. The corners are curling upward, the spine is loose from having spent so much time open, the pages are covered in underlining and notes in the margin from moments where I was so inspired I had to add my two cents. And the thing is, I think Jess would be totally cool with it, because I don’t think she ever really intended for this to be a one-sided conversation.

This book meets you where you are. Sometimes, as a mostly stay-at-home mom who once upon a time had a real career (one I’ll have to go back to full time eventually) I can get lost in the school pick ups and meal planning and forget that no matter where I am, I am running on mission.

Jess equips every woman with what she needs to carry on with God’s plan for her life, regardless of her circumstances.

The Best Part: Jess beautifully links her real life experiences with biblical truth, pointing us towards Christ and other titans of the faith that can inspire us and set us on the right course. This book will leave you feeling humbled, empowered and honoured to be chosen by our good God for his purposes!
